1. Ownership & Use

  • The Smartwash Card remains the property of Smartwash Australia.

  • We reserve the right to cancel or suspend a card in cases of misuse, inappropriate behaviour, or illegal activity.

  • By using the Smartwash Card, you agree to comply with all Smartwash terms, conditions, rules, and policies.

  • Cards and associated accounts are non-transferable. You are responsible for all activity carried out using your card, unless reported lost or stolen (see Section 4).

2. Smartwash Card Account (Sydney University Village Residents Only)

  • The Smartwash Card Account is an optional prepaid account. Funds deposited are used exclusively for Smartwash products and services.

  • Funds cannot be withdrawn in cash, except when closing your account due to graduation or official withdrawal from Sydney University Village.

  • The Smartwash Card is not a credit card and cannot be used to obtain cash or cash advances.

  • If your balance falls below zero due to a system error (e.g., offline reader), you remain responsible for repaying the outstanding amount.

  • Refunds for returned goods or services will not be given in cash. Instead, the refunded amount will be credited back to your Smartwash Card Account.

3. Account Closures & Refunds

  • Accounts will be closed upon graduation or official withdrawal from the institution. Any remaining balance will be refunded in full once all outstanding debts are cleared.

  • Smartwash reserves the right to close accounts that remain inactive for 36 months. Unused balances will be refunded in full.

  • Refunds will be processed back to the account holder only.

4. Lost, Stolen, or Replacement Cards

  • Report lost or stolen cards immediately to Smartwash Australia during business hours (Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm).

  • Alternatively, you may temporarily suspend your card via the online portal at any time.

  • You remain responsible for all transactions made before Smartwash has been notified or the card has been suspended online.

5. Account Activity & Balance Enquiries

  • A receipt may be requested at the point of sale if the terminal provides this option.

  • Your remaining balance is displayed each time you use the KIOSK. If the balance is unavailable at a reader, you may check it online at:

Laundry Do’s and Dont's (Smartwash)

  • Our laundromats are self-service facilities. While we have cleaners who freshen the space daily, staff are not always on-site. Please respect the machines, the premises, and fellow customers so that everyone enjoys a clean and welcoming environment.

  • Always check inside the washer or dryer before use to make sure there are no stray items or objects left behind.

  • Please follow the care instructions on your garments. For safety and to protect our equipment, certain items are not permitted in the machines (see our [FAQ page] for details).

  • Pet bedding and blankets cannot be washed or dried in our machines. If you need help with this type of laundry, contact us on 0401 047 402 for assistance.

  • Our washers automatically release the right amount of detergent and softener during the wash cycle. If you’d like to add your own, please place it directly into the drum before loading your laundry.

  • Leaving laundry unattended is at your own risk. Items left in-store for more than 24 hours may be removed, donated, or disposed of at Smartwash’s discretion.

  • If you’re waiting for a machine that still contains someone else’s laundry, you may carefully place their clean washing into their basket or bag located above the machine so you can use it next.
